here it is, my first review ! It’s my point of view and I am just a young reader. If you don’t agree with me, you can comment but you don’t need to be mean. I’ll write first in English, and then in French. It’s not a translation, I am just writing first in English and then in French so it can’t be exactly the same. (première partie en Anglais, deuxième partie en Français, descendez un peu).

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. So, what did I think about this book ?
First of all, I had wanted to read it for a very long time because it had good critics, the story seemed great and I love series, you have more time to love the characters. When I learned a movie was going to be made, I bought the books to read them before the movie (I hate going to see a movie without having read the book when there is one). I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a great story, with a lot of imagination, and you can easily believe in the story, I mean the author doesn’t make huge mistakes about how this new world works. I think it’s really hard not to make any mistakes when you write about a world that doesn’t exist, you have to work on every detail because people need to believe in this new world and when something feels wrong, the reader doesn’t believe in it anymore. The only thing that wasn’t really clear was when people could see the Shadowhunters or not (they are demon hunters and people are not supposed to see them), I didn’t understand this very well. The story is well constructed and you never get bored. I had a problem at the beginning because there was too much action and not enough thoughts. It felt like a succession of actions where you didn’t get the feelings of the characters enough. I felt a change around page 300 or a little before, after they went to the vampires’ lair. Much more feelings, still a lot of action but it was better written since that part of the book. Maybe it’s just my imagination but I really felt a change. Anyway, a really great book if you like young adult fantasy novels. It made me think of a lot of other books because I read a lot, but it has its differences, I loved it and I can’t wait to read the following books.

résumé : Clary n’en croit pas ses yeux. Elle vient de voir le plus beau garçon de la soirée commettre un meurtre. Et, détail terrifiant : le corps de la victime a disparu d’un seul coup ! Mais le pire reste à venir… Sa mère a été kidnappée par d’étranges créatures et l’appartement complètement dévasté. Sans le savoir, Clary a pénétré dans une guerre invisible entre d’antiques forces démoniaques et la société secrète des chasseurs d’ombres… Une guerre dans laquelle elle a un rôle fatal à jouer.
qu’est-ce que j’en ai pensé ?
Tout d’abord, cela faisait très longtemps que je voulais lire ce livre, il avait beaucoup de bonnes critiques et en plus j’adore les sagas. Lorsque j’ai appris qu’un film allait être produit, je me suis enfin décidée à acheter les livres pour les lire avant (je déteste aller voir un film sans avoir lu les livres lorsqu’il y en a). Et je n’ai pas été déçue. C’est une histoire vraiment bien, pleine d’imagination, et l’histoire est assez réaliste car l’auteur n’a pas fait d’erreurs qui pourraient contredire le fonctionnement de son monde imaginaire. Je trouve que c’est extrêmement difficile de ne pas faire d’erreurs lorsque vous écrivez sur un monde qui n’existe pas, vous devez faire attention au moindre détail car les gens doivent croire en ce nouveau monde. La seule chose qui n’était pas très claire, c’était de savoir quand les gens pouvaient voir les chasseurs de démons ou pas (les gens ne sont pas censés les voir), je n’ai pas très bien compris certains passages. L’histoire est bien construite et vraiment prenante. J’ai eu des difficultés au début car il y avait trop d’action et pas assez de réflexion. J’avais l’impression de lire une succession d’action et je n’avais pas les sentiments des personnages. J’ai senti un véritable changement après le retour du repère des vampires. Il y avait beaucoup plus de sentiments, toujours beaucoup d’action mais le livre était beaucoup mieux écrit à partir de ce moment. Plus d’amour, de haine, de compréhension, de retournements de situations… Peut-être que c’est juste mon imagination mais j’ai vraiment ressenti un changement. En tout cas, un livre vraiment génial si vous aimez les romans fantastiques pour jeunes adultes. Il m’a rappelé beaucoup d’autres livres car je lis énormément mais il s’agit quand même d’une histoire vraiment originale et j’ai hâte de lire la suite.

Il y a eu plusieurs éditions du livre, vous pouvez le trouver soit sous le titre “La cité des ténèbres : tome 1 la coupe mortelle” soit sous le nouveau titre “the mortal instruments : tome 1 la cité des ténèbres.” Je vous conseille vivement de lire en Anglais si vous en avez la possibilité, c’est un peu difficile au début mais on s’habitue vite. Les livres sont toujours plus intéressants en version originale. En plus, ils sont beaucoup BEAUCOUP moins chers mais aussi plus léger (les anglais n’utilisent pas le même papier que nous).
