I’ll write first in French, and then in English. It’s not a translation, I am just writing first in French and then in English, so it can’t be exactly the same.

STRANGE THE DREAMER, BOOK 2: Muse of nightmares
First of all, I’d like to thank the French publisher for sending me this wonderful second book (with a few extra goodies). I had really high expectations after the first book, which was incredible, and I was absolutely not disappointed. One of my friends told me: “I loved it more than the first book and I didn’t even think it was possible” when we talked about our opinion of the book and I completely agree with her.
I was taken into the story of this forgotten city in the desert, the story of the flying citadel, which was casting a shadow on it, and of all the characters. With a few pages only, I was back there already! In this book, we are told, in between the plots of the Citadel and of Weep, the story of two sisters: Kora and Nova. Their story is set way before the current time, when the Gods were ruling everything, and it happens away from the city. Still, it fits in the events of the plot and will turn out to be of the utmost importance.
My heart was already challenged with the first book and it was broken with this one. Laini Taylor is really good at writing sad and heart-wrenching stories, plot twists you would never have expected, and she knows that each action from each character will have consequences. Actions that have led to the slaughter of the citadel and the liberation of Weep. Between a desire for revenge for some and the guilt and trauma from the others, the actions had to lead somewhere.
It is a brilliantly written book. It enables us to understand the thoughts of each character, even though most of them are on different sides. You can get to hate some of them, but the author always reminds us how they got there. You end up feeling pity for them and I got torn between several characters, enable to pick a side.
It is a poetic story, it is beautiful and harrowing. From the beginning to the end, I traveled to a universe which is incredible well-thought and where nothing is left to chance. I was afraid that some of my questions would remain unanswered with two books only, but still, I got an answer to everything. Who were the Gods? What really happened in Weep? Where have all the children gone? So many more mysteries are now solved.
I have to warn you that you must be psychologically prepared for it, because, every time there was a sad story, a new event or plot twist turned it into real tragedy. I hadn’t felt so many things for a book for a long time and I can only encourage you to discover all the poetry there is in this duology, which is just beautiful. It has made it to my list of favorite books and I am really sad to close it. I can only hope to see new books in this universe. It was flawless for me, whether we are talking about the first book or the second one!
