So, what did I think about this book?
It’s been a long time since I took the time to write on my blog! I’ve been very busy lately and I’ve been reading a lot of manga or novels I’ve been working on. But, back in autumn, I decided to dive back into the world of Twilight, one of my favorite series. Back in the days, when the first chapters of Midnight Sun leaked, I was a teenager and a total fan of the books. I read the first few pages, but felt so guilty and disappointed that we wouldn’t get the full text that I didn’t read more than just a few of them. When I learned that the book would finally be published in 2020, I was overjoyed.
As always when I immerse myself in the small town of Forks, the magic worked. It was the perfect novel to accompany me through the fall. The rainy weather and the fantastic atmosphere of the novel were perfectly suited to the season.
What I enjoyed most was finally being able to fill in all the gaps in the first novel. Because we only had Bella’s point of view, we didn’t know what was going on on the other side, with the Cullens. Some scenes were perhaps a little difficult to interpret, as we didn’t know the thoughts of the other protagonist of the novel, Edward.
In short, I just loved getting all of this and especially learning more about his family relationships. I really liked the way his gift for reading other people’s thoughts was integrated to the story. And the tracking of James was much more interesting than in the original book. On the other hand, I did find a few parts where the story dragged on and Edward’s thoughts about Bella quickly became repetitive.
In the end, Edward has a bit of a psychopathic streak to him, on the lookout for Bella’s every move, and this novel from his point of view took a lot of the romance out of the story in my opinion. Despite these flaws, I still really enjoyed this novel that I had been waiting for for a long time.

Quatrième de couverture : La rencontre entre Edward Cullen et Bella Swan dans Fascination, le premier tome de la saga Twilight, a donné naissance à une histoire d’amour iconique. Mais jusqu’à présent, les fans n’avaient pu lire de cette histoire que la version de Bella. Ce conte inoubliable prend, à travers le regard d’Edward, un tour nouveau et résolument sombre. La rencontre de Bella constitue dans sa longue vie de vampire l’expérience la plus intrigante et la plus troublante qui soit. Plus nous apprenons de détails sur le passé d’Edward et la complexité de son monde intérieur, mieux nous comprenons que cet événement constitue le combat déterminant de son existence.
Qu’est-ce que j’en ai pensé ?
Cela fait bien longtemps que je n’ai pas pris le temps d’écrire sur mon blog ! J’ai été très occupée ces temps-ci et j’ai surtout lu beaucoup de mangas ou de romans sur lesquels j’ai travaillé. Mais en automne, j’ai décidé de me replonger dans l’univers de Twilight, une de mes sagas favorites.
À l’époque, lorsque les premiers chapitres de Midnight Sun avaient fuité, j’étais adolescente et complètement fan de la saga. J’avais lu les premières pages, mais j’avais ressenti un tel sentiment de culpabilité et de déception en comprenant que nous n’aurions pas droit au texte dans son intégralité que je n’ai pas lu plus de quelques pages. Lorsque j’ai appris que le livre serait enfin publié en 2020, j’étais folle de joie.
Comme toujours en me replongeant dans la petite ville de Forks, la magie a opéré. C’était le roman parfait pour m’accompagner pendant l’automne. Le temps pluvieux et l’ambiance fantastique du roman étaient parfaitement adaptés à la saison.
Ce qui m’a le plus plu, c’est de pouvoir enfin combler tous les trous du premier roman. En effet, comme nous n’avions que le point de vue de Bella, nous ne savions pas ce qui se passait de l’autre côté, chez les Cullen. Certaines scènes étaient peut-être un peu difficiles à interpréter, car nous ignorions les pensées de l’autre protagoniste du roman, Edward.
En bref, j’ai tout simplement adoré avoir droit à tout ça et surtout en savoir plus au sujet de ses relations familiales. J’ai beaucoup aimé la façon dont son don pour lire les pensées des autres était intégrée à l’histoire. Et la traque de James était bien plus intéressante que dans le livre original. En revanche, j’ai trouvé quelques longueurs et les pensées d’Edward au sujet de Bella sont vite devenues répétitives.
Au final, Edward a un peu tout d’un psychopathe à l’affût du moindre des mouvements de Bella et ce roman de son point de vue a fait perdre beaucoup de son romantisme à l’histoire à mon goût. Malgré ces défauts, j’ai tout de même beaucoup aimé ce roman que j’attendais depuis longtemps.
